Test Tips
- Once you have booked your test, make sure that you regularly revise the car maintenance questions, otherwise known as the ‘show me/tell me’ questions. You will be asked 2 of these questions at the beginning of your test. These questions can be found on our website.
- Make sure you have both parts of your driving licence with you otherwise your test can not be conducted.
- Make sure you arrive around 10 minutes before your test begins.
- Once you arrive at the test centre, make sure you are nice and relaxed, with your head clear for the test.
- Once your time has arrived, your examiner will greet you in the waiting room, and check and inspect your documents.
- He/she will then ask you to lead him/her to your car. On the way he/she will ask you to read a number plate of a car situated at approximately 20.5 metres away from you.
- Once you have reached your vehicle he/she will ask you to get in and make yourself comfortable whilst he/she inspects the vehicle. Don’t panic at this point, it is only a routine that they are required to follow!!

- Once your test has begun, it will last approximately 40 minutes. Within this time you will be tested on your general driving skills, and asked to perform 2 of the 4 manoeuvres you have learnt. He/she will ask you, during your drive, to pull in and pull out of the side of the road, to test your observation and co-ordination skills. He/she may also ask you to perform an emergency stop, but don’t worry, he/she will explain what to do before the task begins.
- During the test he/she will be marking a DSA examination sheet, in which you are allowed no more than 15 minors, 4 in each category, and no serious or dangerous marks (majors).
- At the end of the test he/she will issue you with your result - hopefully it will be a pass. If so, he/she will automatically send off your provisional licence for a full licence!
Good Luck from all at Lynx Driving School.
